How My Toon Army Uses AI

My Toon Army uses artificial intelligence. It helps draft the writing, analyse the numbers, check facts and create the artwork you see on the site and on Instagram. This page explains how that works, what stays in human hands, and what you can hold me to.

The editor’s chair

At My Toon Army, I’m the editor. I choose the stories and set the angle. I also set the identity of the site, which means reading Newcastle United through the lens of a professional banker, and following the club under PIF ownership and the Premier League’s financial rules. AI works to that brief, doing the jobs a staff writer, researcher, sub-editor and graphics team would perform.

The style is deliberate too. The broadsheet register, the long-form storytelling, the atmosphere and pacing — that’s a house style I set and hold every piece to, not a default AI happened to produce. Copy that doesn’t read that way gets sent back until it does.

How a piece gets made

Most analytical pieces start with a discussion before any prose is written. The angle gets tested, the framework gets challenged, and we agree what the story actually is. Research and fact-checking come next, then a draft. Then come rounds of revision, where I go through the copy line by line and send it back until it says what I want it to say.

Nothing is published without passing through my hands.

The standards that don’t change

Using AI doesn’t lower the bar on accuracy. Quotes are verified against source material before they’re attributed. Player names, squad details, results and figures are cross-checked against confirmed records. When something can’t be verified, it’s flagged or left out, never guessed.

I take responsibility for every word and image on this site.

The artwork

Many images on My Toon Army are created with generative AI. They are illustrations, not photographs, and they don’t document real events.

Davies Robson

Davies Robson, the fan’s-eye voice behind our match reactions, is a fictional character. He’s there to give the gut-level view from the terraces, as a counterweight to the blog’s analytical voice. His pieces are written with AI assistance and follow the same editorial direction as everything else.

Spotted something wrong?

If you find a factual error, tell me and I’ll correct it. That’s the standard I’d ask you to judge My Toon Army by. What matters isn’t how the words were produced, but whether they’re accurate, original and worth your time.
